WHAT IS EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS (EoE)?

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, inflammatory disorder of the esophagus characterized by eosinophilic inflammation and symptoms related to esophageal dysfunction.1-3

Symptoms associated with eosinophilic esophagitis include1,2,4,5:

  • Dysphagia
  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Chest pain
  • Painful swallowing
  • Food impaction

THE ROLE OF EOSINOPHILIC INFALMMATION IN EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS

Dysregulated immune responses lead to the recruitment and activation of eosinophils,
potentially causing eosinophilic inflammation and symptoms associated with
esophageal dysfunction.9-11

IMPACT OF EOSINOPHILIC ESOPHAGITIS ON PATIENTS

Eosinophilic esophagitis is a lifelong, progressive disease that can significantly impact patients’ quality of life.5,8,12
